Matias, the son of renowned winemaker Jorge Riccitelli (who makes an INCREDIBLE Semillon by the way), has trained at some of the best wineries on the continent and in 2009 he decided to go it alone up in the wonderful Uco Valley which is fast becoming Argentina’s premier sub-region.
The T.D.L.C is a blend of 2 plots of Malbec; one from the Las Compuertas vineyard which sits at 1,100m above sea level and another at an eye-watering 1,400m in a small region called Gualtallary. The grapes grow a very thick skin at such altitudes so as to protect themselves from the UV rays and this in turn produces wines with rich and concentrated flavours and we are not complaining. The juice is aged in French oak barrels for 12 months before which it is allowed to ferment with wild, native yeasts.
Only 7,000 bottles of this wine are produced each vintage.
Complex and rich. Floral, black pepper, toasty spice all held together with black fruits, blueberry and plum. Vanilla oak, hint of cocoa, earthy leather and touch of minerality.
All of the above. Opulent and smooth. Medium to full bodied, with great balance of tannins and acidity with a superb, long finish. Pass the rib-eye.
