First documented in the 15th century,Arneis is a wonderfully aromatic variety that was often used in a blend with Nebbiolo in order to soften the tannins. In the 20th century it was on the cusp of disappearing from us forever and in the 1970s only two producers were making wine with Arneis. Then, thankfully, the grape made a comeback in the 80s and we are now looking at around 650 hectares planted. Piemonte is its motherland and it thrives off the minerally and chalky soils in the area of Roero, just north of Alba.
Gorgeous aromatics of exotic fruit, ripe pears and blossom. Hint of honey and lemon.
