Chateau Ste Michelle, Cabernet Sauvignon, 50th Anniversary, Columbia Valley, USA, 2016

Another of the classic grape varieties, this really is a treat. Cabernet Sauvignon – one of the worlds most widely planted grapes but also one of the worlds most revered. Arguably the No.1 grape (alongside Merlot) of the Bordeaux region but also supreme on the west coast of the USA. The climates of the Columbia Valley vary from sub-region to sub-region but what we know for sure is that Washington State is producing some of the most exciting wines in North America and that is a testament to Ch. Ste Michelle who have upped the game of so many around them. Long may it continue.

Lovely. Blackberry and blackcurrant with a lovely smokiness and hint of menthol. Hint of red fruit. Cracked black pepper, tomato leaf, dark sugar, sage and liquorice.

All of the above. Lick of dried fruit. Medium to full bodied with grippy yet silky tannins and top acidity that doesn’t get in the way too much. Dry on the finish with a lovely length.
