Chante Cigale, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Rhone Valley, France, 2017

This is the rest of your evening sorted in one bottle. But take it slow, it is 15.5% ABV. 65% Grenache, then Syrah and Mourvedre, the classic blend of the region (even though this AOC is permitted up to 13 varieties in its blend). Each parcel of vines has an average age of 60 years which brings yield crashing down, but intensity and elegance soring. To add to the rarity here, 15% of the yield is lost in the 2 and half year ageing process.“Outstanding & Complex”,“juicy and floral with a good backbone of soft tannin”,“good structure, with fresh dark fruits” are just some of the critics’ words. Winner of the Gold Medal & Critics Choice Award at SWA 2019.
