The origins of Syrah (Shiraz) are debated with most scholars leaning towards it being one of either a) middle eastern, b) ancient Greek or c) Roman. But what we all agree on is that it produces some of the worlds finest red wines (Nick & George love the stuff). Another super versatile grape in the sense that it can grow in cooler climates as well as warmer areas. Definitely a wine that rewards you immensely when you spend a couple of extra bob on a bottle of it.
Fruit forward style. Lots of black fruits and a touch of raspberry. Leather, smoky, cinnamon, sweet vanilla, violet and dark chocolate. Classic white pepper.
Bold flavours and body, lovely tannins and acidity. Great food wine. Rich fruit (blackberry / blackcurrant / red berries) and the lick of that vanilla, sweet spice and some liquorice and pepper. Really good with roast beef & lamb, grilled salmon and game.
